Art and Science..... Students observe life in the Edison Garden as well as collect seeds!

We began our year exploring what we can do with paper!

Students were asked to create a list of things they could do with paper. The ideas came quickly, such as drawing, folding, cutting, bending, rolling, curling, and pasting. Origami was a favorite!

Upcoming News! Original Works orders due by Oct. 7th!

Original Works is coming this fall, in time for your child's artwork to become a wonderful holiday gift! Order forms and artwork will be send home by the end of September. This fundraiser will support the added cost for printing student photographs this year. Thank you for supporting our art program!

Things we could use in the art room........Thank you!

Plastic milk containers, legos, and other interesting items are welcome!
Still would love more found objects for creating sculptures! Keep the art room in mind before recyling!
Interesting texture items such as chains, wooden spools, etc. for making texture in clay as well as making prints with.

Button down adult shirts for painting

About Me

Ms. Kelly Mansfield: Denver, Colorado; I have been a certified Art Educator for 13+ years and I am lucky to have taught a wide range of ages and educational backgrounds. I am thrilled to be able to bring choice-based art education to the students at Edison Elementary! I have been inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB), and the writings of Mihaly Csikszentmihaly regarding creativity and the human experience. Keeping myself open to the human experience inspires my own art.

In the choice-based art studio.....

Students can: Work at their own speed, work from their strengths, learn from and work with peers, develop a working style, use what they know to show what they know, engage in positive social interactions, take responsibility for care of materials and centers.

Teacher can: Observe students working independently to determine strenghts and weaknesses, offer special "scaffolding" to struggling students, get to know students well through their very individual personal styles, expect students to come to class highly motivated and ready to work.

The classroom provides: Time, space, materials, instruction and spirit.
